Wed 6/15/11 – “Times Change but the Message Stays the Same” Ezekiel 6:1-10

Times Change but the Message Stays the Same
Ezekiel 6:1-10
Dean Mileto
6-15-11

Introduction – Times change but the message never will. The LORD God still seeks people that believe, trust, serve, and worship only God.

I. The times: Isaiah 39:5-6

  • Period of Hezekiah to the exile (686 – 534?)
  • Like Daniel, Ezekiel was taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar – Ezekiel 1:1-3
  • Ezekiel refers to Daniel twice – Ezekiel 14:14 and Ezekiel 28:3
  • Other books of the Bible written during the exile and captivity

II. The message: Ezekiel 6:1-10

  • Speaking to rock hard hearts – vv.1-3
  • Foolish objects of trust – v. 4
  • Just like the song says “He is God Alone” – vv. 5-7
  • God has always loved the remnant – vv. 8-10

Conclusion: Ezekiel spoke the message of God while Daniel showed the message of God, two Godly men, using different God-given methods, but both had the same message.

Sun 6/12/11 – “Know Fear – Know God” – Deuteronomy

Know Fear – Know God
Deuteronomy
Jack Smith
6-12-11

Introduction: We fear many things in life but nothing should frighten us more than God. – Deuteronomy 5:22-30

I. Is fear necessary?

  • Avoids God’s judgment – Deuteronomy 7:9-11
  • Enables God’s blessings

II. Why is it so difficult to fear God?

  • We’re our own worst enemies – Deuteronomy 9:2-6
  • We have no need for it – no conviction- Deuteronomy 13:6-11; Acts 5:1-11
  • It only comes from God – Deuteronomy 29:2-4

Conclusion: Fearing God is the first step to loving Him. It does not bring shame but offers us a path to true security. – Deuteronomy 4:32-40
