Introduction – God pulls the veil of the spiritual world aside to give Daniel/us a look into the unseen. – Colossians 1:16

I. Preparation for the vision – vv. 1-4

  • Four years after vision of 70 weeks
  • Ezra 1:1-4, Two years later and only a handful returned home
  • Exact date

II. A vision of Christ – vv. 5-9

  • Similar to Revelation – Revelation 1:12-16
  • Saw this alone/alone with God

III. The veil lifted – vv. 10-14

  • Spiritual warfare – Ephesians 6:11-12
  • Agonize in prayer – Romans 15:30
  • A raging battle – 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
  • Reasons: – Thy people
    • Latter days
    • For many days

IV. The vision’s affect – vv. 15-21

  • Speechless/sorrowful/weak
  • Strengthened by Christ’s love
  • God’s word will guide you/Sword of the Spirit

Conclusion – Engage the enemy, victory is ours through Jesus Christ.

Introduction – Like items in the grocery store, those that oppose God’s plans have a limited shelf life.

I. Oh, to be loved – vv. 20-23

  • Concerns for God’s honor and people
  • Understanding for life’s questions

II. Seventy weeks of years – vv. 24

  • Three negatives
    • Finish the transgression
    • Make an end of sin
    • Make reconciliation
  • Three positives
    • Bring in everlasting righteousness
    • Seal up vision and prophecy
    • Anoint the Most High

III. Restoring Jerusalem – vv. 25-26

  • Beginning and ending point
  • Messiah and Jerusalem cut off
  • The other prince has his moment

IV. Limited time – v. 27

  • The last week of years – 2 Thessalonians 2:4; Revelation 13:5; 12:14

Conclusion – Those in Christ will enjoy an everlasting kingdom.

Introduction – Daniel reveals the pattern and conditions of his prayer life.

I. Reading the signs – vv. 1-3

  • In captivity 70 years
  • God’s vision caused him to study – Jeremiah 25:11; 29:10
  • Personal persistence in prayer

II. Looking for answers – vv. 4-14

  • Acknowledgement of God’s worthiness for respect
  • I, we and our sin – confession
  • Detail of deserving discipline
  • Scattered lives and confused faces
  • God is right – we are wrong

III. Basis of appeal – vv. 15-19

  • God’s righteousness, sake, mercies, city and people – Romans 3:26

Conclusion – Praying for God’s glory and name best describes prayer that works!

Introduction – Like a fingerprint, each individual’s voice is unique and has characteristics such as pitch and rhythm, which can be mapped and used to verify identity.

I. Second vision received – vv. 1-14

  • At Shushan/Susa, one capital of Persia
  • Two animals
    • A ram – Media and Persia
    • A goat – Greece/Alexander the Great
  • Four generals – Ptolemy, Antigonus, Lysimachus and Cassander
  • Under Antigonus came Antiochus IV called Epiphanes from – 171-165 BC
  • Took away sacrifices and desecrated their sanctuary
  • How long? 2300 days
  • Maccabee family overthrows/Feast of Dedication or Hanukkah

II. Vision interpretation – vv. 15-25

  • End times – Antiochus Epiphanes symbolizes Antichrist
  • Clear history of Persia and Greece
  • Antiochus would seek to destroy God’s people – Hellenize the Jews
  • He was broken without hand – died strangely

III. Preserve the vision – vv. 26-27

  • Recognize the enemy
  • Recognize God’s plan

Conclusion – Jesus said His sheep would hear His voice. – John 18:37
